The Departmental Council proudly supports Library Week


County council heads gave their support to this year’s Library Week, which is themed #ChangingLives.

The theme focuses on how a local library has made a significant difference in the lives of patrons or how the library has enabled them to have a positive impact on their community.

Here in Worcestershire, our libraries have continued to support local communities during times of lockdown and throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

County libraries remained open for the entire period except the first period of the coronavirus lockdown, adapting many library services to an online platform and offering an alternate reserve and collection service when browsing and browsing. borrowing was not allowed.

Pre-bookable computer sessions and office spaces, online events and activities for all age groups, an enhanced e-book library, an adapted offering of the mobile library and home library service, all have helped fight social isolation within our communities.

By keeping libraries open for essential computer use, people could still access information online, fill out application forms, conduct job searches, check emails, and stay in touch with their parents. family and friends.

Councilor Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Our libraries have provided a real lifeline to many of our local communities over the past 18 months or so and it’s great to be able to look back with it. a real pride in what they have helped our residents to achieve.

Library Digital Champion volunteers provided invaluable digital support through a call back service and free introductory zoom sessions.

These allowed people to develop their digital skills and confidence, learn to use Zoom for the first time so that they could participate in online courses, join a library connection bubble or just stay connected. contact with family and friends via video calls.

Worcestershire Libraries continue to reintroduce face-to-face services with children’s activities, a one-on-one digital champion and social connection groups now safely operational.
