A racing driver himself, who has had success behind the wheel of production cars at events like the Wakefield 300, Shane Tanner knows the motorsport industry.
He grew up as a fan of the sport and found a role with Brad Jones Racing which saw him work alongside Kim Jones after earning a three certificate in Motorsport and Engineering from Albury-Wodonga TAFE.
“I was basically their sponsor liaison and worked closely with Kim Jones – loved every minute of it,” Tanner said.
“I took care of all the drivers, sponsors and teams and did all the pit lanes and everything, which was absolutely great for someone aspiring to enter the V8 world.
“Then I started to drive production cars, only at an amateur level, so in AASA type events.
“Probably two years ago I had an idea; I kind of saw a gap in the market to look after drivers and teams, especially for their branding, ”he added.
“So I launched Motorsport Websites, and it basically aims to create websites for the drivers, for the teams, to publicize their profile; everything from their logo design, to their website design, to the design of their race cars, race suit, whole kit and caboodle.
Tanner understands marketing and what sponsors are looking for, and now uses that knowledge to help young drivers position themselves appropriately as they embark on their careers in the fierce world of motorsport.
“If a karter is like, ‘I want to aspire to drive V8s or GTs,’ or whatever, I can set up a website for them to advertise their profile. I can then do all of their branding, so that they are presentable to the sponsors, presentable to the media, ”explained Tanner.
MotorsportWebsites.com.au is a sponsor of Parked podcast, giving Tanner connections to other industry professionals through whom he can provide services such as media training or photography.
“I have contacts everywhere that I can help someone say, you want help with public speaking or on TV, or if you want your car designed, or if you want it done. , I have contacts and I can do it myself. “
This allows Tanner to deliver a holistic experience, making him a one-stop-shop when it comes to positioning and polishing a driver’s brand and image.
And it doesn’t end there, as Tanner’s other company, Torq Racewear, can also be leveraged to ensure the on-track presentation matches the off-track image.
“I’m now the only distributor for this in Australia, and they’re starting to get a bit of traction,” he explained.
“I tried to connect the two companies.
“If a driver comes to me and they want to do all the branding or have a new sponsor on board, I can do it all from their website, link it to their race suit and their design. racing suit, as well as its race. car design, and give them the full package.
“Instead of running around town with 100 different people, I can take care of the drivers and provide one-stop shopping.”
Like most of those who work in motorsport, the business is less about money and more about passion and love for the sport – that being able to contribute positively as a by-product is a twofold result. rewarding.
“I love sports, I love motor racing, motor racing, I love being on the track and immersing myself in it,” he admitted.
“I’ve always had a burning desire to drive myself at an amateur level, which I really, really love, because I have a driver background as well, so I kind of try to mix them up.
“Also, I love helping the people I see who have really good talent, you can see them go further.
“I just want to help people get as far as they can in this industry, because I’ve seen it from both sides.
“Sometimes people need a little bit of advice to get them through motorsport in shark tanks.”
