O2 and CTS EVENTIM Provide State-of-the-Art 5G Network for 2022 Summer Festivals

Munich, June 13, 2022. Telecommunications provider O2 Telefónica and CTS EVENTIM, one of the leading international providers of ticketing and live entertainment services, are providing high-quality 5G network coverage for the festival summer 2022.

O2 Telefónica will provide each of the Southside, Deichbrand and Highfield festival venues with global 4G/LTE coverage and, for the first time, its state-of-the-art 5G network, including the powerful 3.6 GHz frequency band. This will allow festival-goers to use their smartphones to share their experience with family and friends via live streaming on TikTok, WhatsApp and Instagram, no matter where they are.

Fans who cannot be present in person can watch the official live stream free of charge and without access restrictions at o2.de/music. The site also offers excerpts from concerts by selected artists and bands in the form of free videos on demand in HD.

“After more than two years, the festivals are back and we are finally able to take our partnership with CTS EVENTIM to the next level. We, as one of the leading mobile telecommunications brands, and CTS EVENTIM, as one of the leading live entertainment providers, join forces to provide O2 customers and all music lovers with exceptional moments. Whether in person at the event, virtually via a free live stream, or as a video-on-demand concert. For us, this is another step in the process of transforming our core brand into a superbrand that sets us apart from our competitors and is both relevant and eye-catching,” says Michael Falkensteiner, Chief Brand and marketing communications at O2 Telefónica Germany.

“When tens of thousands of people gather, as is the case at our outdoor festivals, network coverage has always been a challenge in the past. We are delighted that by offering 5G for the first time, O2 offers our festival fans a very special service and real added value,” says Dr Frithjof Pils, Managing Director of EVENTIM LIVE. “O2 and CTS EVENTIM are also working on other product and service innovations that we are already looking forward to implementing. This long-standing partnership also highlights the value of CTS EVENTIM’s assets for major brands. Based on this, we aim to massively expand EVENTIM Brand Connect in the near future.

CTS EVENTIM and O2 Telefónica entered into a live entertainment partnership in early 2020, but it was partially suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. O2 customers benefit from exclusive 48-hour pre-sales for the best concerts throughout Germany throughout the year. Plus, there’s free live streaming as well as video-on-demand concert experiences from festivals. O2 also uses the online presence and media channels provided by EVENTIM Brand Connect, such as social media, newsletters, display ads and banner ads, as well as particularly targeted marketing and targeting opportunities. The global partnership is designed to last several years.

The south side festival (June 17-19) in Neuhausen ob Eck in the Swabian Alb region is a long-established live event. After his enforced two-year coronavirus hiatus, major acts topping this year’s bill include Martin Garrix, KIZ, Seeed, The Killers, Deichkind, Twenty One Pilots, Kings of Leon and Rise Against.

The Deichbrand Festival (July 21-24) at Sea-Airport Cuxhaven/Nordhol will be featured by Kraftklub, Steve Aoki and Trettmann. Apache 207, Bausa, Bilderbuch, Capital Bra, Clueso, Dropkick Murphys, H-Blockx, Mavi Phoenix, Milky Chance, Nightwish, Provinz and Sido are also on stage. In total, more than 90 numbers have been reserved for the festival.

The Highfield Festival (August 19-21) at Lake Störmthal near Leipzig will feature bands ranging from pop to punk and rock to rap. For 2022, confirmed acts include Deichkind, Limp Bizkit, Bad Religion, Casper, Kraftklub and Callejon.

O2 Telefónica will also – as in previous years – provide other major events in Germany with its powerful O2 network, for example the Rheinkirmes funfair in Düsseldorf, the Oktoberfest in Munich and the Maschsee Lake Festival in Hannover.

CTS EVENTIM is one of the leading international providers of ticketing and live performance services. Prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, around 250 million tickets a year were traded using the company’s systems, whether through physical ticket offices, online or from mobile devices. Its online portals operate under brands such as eventim.de, oeticket.com, ticketcorner.ch, ticketone.it and entradas.com. The EVENTIM group also includes numerous concert, tour and festival organizing companies for events such as Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Hurricane, Southside and Lucca Summer. In addition, CTS EVENTIM operates some of the most renowned venues in Europe, for example LANXESS Arena in Cologne, KB Hallen in Copenhagen, Waldbühne in Berlin and EVENTIM Apollo in London. CTS Eventim AG & Co. KGaA (ISIN DE 0005470306) has been publicly traded since 2000 and is currently a member of the MDAX segment. In 2021, amid forced closures, cancellations and event restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Group achieved total revenue of €407.8 million in more than 20 countries. In 2019, the year before the outbreak of the pandemic, turnover exceeded 1.4 billion euros.
