The New York Giants are enjoying several training camp highlights this year on both sides of the ball. Some newly signed players, like Adoree ‘Jackson, adapted easily and made key plays during practice. But some younger and less established players have also turned heads with impressive performances at camp.
Wide receiver David Sills stood out during training camp. But Sills is one of those less established players that most fans don’t know much about. So that raises the question of who exactly is this big catcher from training camp, David Sills?
Who is David Sills?
New York Giants training camp star David Sills is a former quarterback turned receiver. Sills split the time at both quarterback and wide receiver in West Virginia in 2015, but showed some potential as a receiver, ending the season with seven receptions for 131 yards. He was then transferred to El Camino College in 2016 to play exclusively as a quarterback before returning to West Virginia as wide receiver.
David Sills had 60 receptions for 980 yards and 18 insane touchdowns in 12 games for West Virginia in 2017. As a senior in 2018, Sills was again impressive, posting 65 receptions for 986 yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 games. . David Sills was a true playmaker for the Mountaineers in his college career.
David Sills was not drafted in 2019 before signing with the Buffalo Bills in April. He was sadly ruled out by the Bills in August, but then signed with the New York Giants practice squad in September. He spent the entire 2019 season on the New York training squad. During last year’s training camp, David Sills suffered a broken foot, which placed him in the injured reserve.
The Giants haven’t given up on David Sills, however, as they signed him for overtime until the 2021 season. The Giants wide receiver 6-4 has yet to play regular season football. But he has always stood out in training and has worked hard this offseason to prepare for the 2021 season.
According to Giants head coach Joe Judge, David Sills “just followed Daniel [Jones] across the country and wherever Daniel was he would be there to grab passes. Sills never missed an opportunity to do some extra work with their quarterback, improving their game and boosting their chemistry.

It is important that this game was made with the first team. Sills’ hard work did not go unnoticed as he won first-team reps. This is a big step towards making the final list. If David Sills can continue to shine in training camp and preseason, he could be a summer star who deserves a spot in the Giants’ final roster this regular season.
