Large companies can have huge marketing budgets, so they can afford to be a little careless about how they spend them. They also have a lot of marketers who can run around and experiment with the latest sophisticated marketing ideas.
Entrepreneurs? We are different. We manage Lean and Mean organizations. We can’t afford to waste money on ineffective marketing, and we certainly don’t have a lot of extra time. So, when you think about what to spend on your marketing campaigns, you have to think about both money and time.
And the biggest return on your marketing spend – both in terms of time and money – is digital marketing.
As an entrepreneur, digital marketing is absolutely critical to the success of your business, especially during the early years and months when so many businesses fail! You might not be a digital marketer, but you need to be. Digital marketing is the most powerful, effective, and cost-effective way to get your message, service, or product out.
That said, you don’t have to give up on everything to become a digital marketing expert! You don’t need to study a bunch of technical details and thousands of digital promotion strategies. You just need to learn the basics of online marketing and implement a good strategy.

I have spent years and literally tens of thousands of dollars discovering and implementing various digital marketing strategies. I am now teaching other entrepreneurs how to implement the specific strategies that have helped me create two multi-million dollar businesses. Based on my own experience and research, here are my top six suggestions for entrepreneurs for 2022 that will get you the best ROI for your digital marketing spend.
1. Video marketing
If you’ve read any of my articles, seen my YouTube channel, or watched any of my blogs, you know I’m always talking about the power of video! In 2021, 86% of businesses have used video marketing (compared to 85% last year), and 93% of traders who use video say it’s a vital part of their marketing efforts.
When you focus on using video, your brand awareness grows much faster. Using video will increase your sales and help you build relationships.
2. Social media marketing
It’s just common sense that you want to show where your customers and potential customers are, isn’t it? And where is everyone? On social networks. Social media isn’t just vacation photos and cat videos anymore. Entrepreneurs have found it to be the fastest and most efficient way to build their brand.
I know social media marketing can take a lot of time and energy! It is therefore important to focus on strategies that will pay off. The first step is to research your target market – what they like, what worries them, what excites them, what their issues are, and more specifically, where they appear on social media. Once done, you’ll know which social media platforms to target first. I always suggest you start with one platform and master it before moving on to the others. When you focus this way, you won’t be wasting your time building an audience that doesn’t turn into a business for you.
3. Pay per click
Yes, you have to pay to play! I know you can post great content for free and find traffic organically. So it’s tempting to play cheap when it comes to your digital marketing. Don’t be tempted to ignore ad extensions and paid ad campaigns.
One of your best marketing spend is Google Ads. You’ll get much better results when you use both organic and paid search query traffic. Don’t go cheap and miss out on what this service can do for you!

Your business has a website, doesn’t it? But are you making the most of it? If you are not using search engine optimization (SEO) the answer is “no!” SEO ensures that people who would be interested in your service or product can actually find you! This is what puts your ad or article on the first page of a search rather than the 47th.
Investing in SEO is relatively inexpensive. It is also evergreen, so it will continue to attract new customers and build awareness of your brand. Once you know the keywords that search engines use, be sure to use them in all copy and content from your website as well as any other content you post elsewhere.
5. Content Marketing
Now, most entrepreneurs understand that content marketing is the way to go. In this type of marketing, you create content that your target audience would find valuable. It doesn’t focus directly on promoting your product or service but on the needs and wants of your target market: what interests them, what worries them, and their issues that you can help solve. It is based on your understanding of your target market from your research and the knowledge and expertise you can offer them to improve their lives.
6. This is portion do not sell!
You can blog – or better yet, vlog! – or infographics that people can share on social media. Any content marketing you do should aim for the same things: grab attention, build confidence in you and your brand message, and deliver real value. You want to attract people to you by providing them with content they like and can use.
